My sweet little JV girls cross country team ran a total of five miles today in practice. The darlings, who showed up in August with a wide range of unathletic, uncoordinated, and unmotivated tendencies, are making their coaching mama proud.
Meanwhile, Paul is dealing with the mass of negatively-charged bodies on the boys JV cross country team. I am continually searching for a glimmer of hope in the eyes of these teenage boys, who otherwise seem programmed to be offensive, disgusting, and rude. So help me God, if the hypothetical son I ever bring into the world hocks and spits in the vicinity of a female...
Today I was assigned to lead a small group in the third form (freshman) retreat. The rest of the school was taking PSAT's, and so the young ones are herded together to be talked at about spirituality and their identity. It's amazing what wonderful things come out of these young mouths in a small group or one-on-one setting: they are insightful, creative, sensitive young people with much to offer. And then, on the way to the chapel to be indoctrinated with the love and peace that the catholic god offers, one of these young gentlemen walking besides me - no, not at any great distance that would prevent his words from falling on my ears, but smack dab next to me - commented about a sexual act that his friend does with his mother. Lord have mercy. I, however, in my wrath, did not.
What a lovely first impression. He now has four years (or the rest of his mortal life) to redeem himself.
